Zelda is that the Princess of Hyrule (the majority of the time) that normally needs saving. However, not all of her incarnations are all helpless.

I have gone through and examined all of the many Zeldas out of each of the main titles (when existing ) and a few spin-off matches (i.e. Hyrule Trainers along with the CD-i matches ). There are a couple of instances where one version of Zelda shows up in several games and there are some games which don’t feature her at all.

Each Zelda was rated on one of three aspects: bureau, characterization, and presence. Did she spend most of the game unconscious or was she running around and kicking butt? In regards into characterization, I looked at how powerful her personality was. Now, this doesn’t refer to how mentally or physically strong she is. It’s more to do with the amount of strengths and weaknesses. Does she really have a personality? Eventually I looked at the way current she was in the game itself. What Personality?

Zelda does play a bigger role in the finale and assists Link to restore Lorule’s Triforce. Except, at the conclusion of the day, that’s not actually a good deal.

Twilight Princess is one of the better Zelda games, so it is unfortunate that it is unique iteration of Zelda is extremely centre of the road. She’s not horrible. Yes, she’s in captivity until the match starts, but it isn’t kidnapping. Zant gave her two options: see that her folks die in a dreadful war as her kingdom is burned to the ground, or concede kingdom and herself. She has confidence in spades but isn’t so large on her loftwing she does not fret about others. In addition to all that, she is jealous of Link’s relationship with his loftwing. This Zelda is a genuine character! While she’s not a huge presence in the game, she isn’t completely absent from it either. She’s a significant participant in the onset of the game also shows up many times throughout. There is one rather heart-wrenching scene involving her and Connect about halfway through the game which showcased their relationship perfectly. It is just too bad she doesn’t have that much agency.

Zelda does not only get intimidated, she gets kidnapped three occasions. Each time, she has to be rescued by Impa or Connect. Impa takes her from 1 place to the next, leading her through the activities she has to perform. She does make a few decisions for herself, but she’s not the driving force behind a good portion of her actions. It is a shame, actually.

Girl Power: Ocarina Of Time

This Zelda is a young child for at least half the game. However, she was able to recognize that the evil in Ganondorf and instantly jumped into action. Zeldabeing a youngster, did the wise thing and cautioned her daddy. When he didn’t believe her, she decided to quit Ganondorf herself. Zelda followed prophetic dreams and sent Link on the task to rescue Hyrule. She assisted him as best she could in the sidelines while vowing to protect the Ocarina of Time. If it became clear that she couldn’t shield the ocarina, she chose to give it to Link. As Sheik, she used her ninja abilities to continue to assist Link. Zelda was always adapting and invisibly her strategies as the situations changed. Granted, not all her ideas are very good and she’s singlehandedly responsible for splitting the timeline. However, Zelda is strong. It is just unfortunate that her character is not explored very well and she only appears sporadically throughout the game. She also managed to have kidnapped shortly after revealing herself to Connect and couldn’t break out regardless of her power and skills.

Missing Potential: Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass

I can’t even start to describe how badly I needed Tetra to be higher on this listing. She does not bother with useless people and does not let anybody walk over her. What’s more, she gets an actual character arc where she learns to become kinder and also to take responsibility as the princess of Hyrule. On top of that, she conserves Link just as many times because he saves her. It is only a complete shame that her service is stripped off her in the latter half of this match. Once she learns she is Princess Zelda, she goes into hiding until Ganondorf kidnaps her. Zelda also spends half the final battle unconscious. However, she does help Link combat in the second half and they conquer Ganondorf together.

Tetra’s actual tragedy, and also the reason why she’s really low on this listing, is because of Phantom Hourglass. All her service becomes stripped off from her. Her low reputation is completely this game’s error.

The Hero: CD-I Zelda Titles

That hurts. This physically hurts. The CD-i Zelda games are so bad that many Zelda fans refuse to admit their presence. The CD-i Zelda games have been terrible and easily the worst of all the Zelda games. They are not even canon. The only good thing about these is that they are so easy to ditch. Sadly, this list is not about the games, it’s about the characters. Now, I shall absolutely acknowledge that Zelda’s character is actually awful in the first CD-i game. Zelda in Link: The Faces of Evil is all about as dumb as dumb is. Not only does she get kidnapped, but she’s the entire game unconscious. When Link conserves her wakes up and asks what happened. Connect informs her that he saved her from Ganon and her instant reply is:”You did not.”

Although it can be argued that the Zelda in Zelda’s Adventure game is another Zelda, the fact remains that she scored ridiculously large due to her agency and presence in the match. The previous two CD-i titles only comprise her as the primary, playable character at which Link gets kidnapped and that she saves him. She has a lot of spunk and is fearless in battle. In both games, she is the protagonist.

Hyrule Warriors is just another non-canon Zelda title, but it could be a disservice for this listing if we ignored it. 1 look at Princess Zelda in Hyrule Warriors is all it takes to determine why she’d make it into the 3rd spot. Zelda is plagued by nightmares and their potential scares her. She begins to search for a warrior who could help to protect her realm, but a military attacks before she can make a determination. So, rather, she orders the troops to fight and marches with them into the fray. Zelda goes lost during the struggle, but it is not because she was kidnapped. Instead she transforms into Sheik and struggles alongside Connect and Impa to guard her people. Zelda absolutely kicks ass in Hyrule Warriors. Contrary to her Ocarina of Time counterpart, she doesn’t get kidnapped right after showing herself. She proceeds to battle through the game and is a significant presence in the gameplay and story. The only disadvantage is that she is not well explored as a personality. A lot of emphasis is placed on her as a puzzle rather than as a character.

The Savior: Breath Of The Wild

It honestly took time and contemplation for me to put the Breath of their Wild Zelda with this record, especially this large. Zelda is, on the outside, not quite that interesting. She is not a fighter at exactly the exact same manner the Hyrule Warriors Zelda her character is not as evident as a few of those others. Additionally, it seems like she doesn’t really do much. But I placed her this high for a reason.

Zelda knew about her fate from a young age and committed her every waking minute to unlocking the power she had to defeat Ganon. She’s the one who commanded where they went and when they did it. When Ganon finally did attack, she stored Link and proceeded to kidnap Ganon. Alright, she trapped him for 100 decades, but it’s basically the identical thing. Breath of the Wild’s Zelda has arguably the most service out of the Zeldas. Her personality isn’t as bombastic as others, however, it is still there. She is not as mentally strong as the others, but she is smart and serious. Her anger towards Link in the flashbacks is diverted frustration at her own powerless state. Zelda functions herself to the verge of fatigue because she is acutely conscious of the immense weight on her buttocks. The only thing that keeps her from this number one spot is her existence. While she’s plenty of cutscenes, she’s relatively absent at a game that could easily run within 100 hours.

The Zelda in Spirit Tracks is among those few incarnations of Zeldas that is really playable. Her personality, while mentally helpless, is the most powerful in the collection. She is easily intimidated by the Chancellor and doesn’t have much of a spine at all. Zelda is somewhat foolhardy but not completely naive. She understands the Chancellor is up to a person and recruits Link to help her sneak from the castle so as to figure out it. If her body is taken from her, her soul remains. She starts off as a scared little girl who’s more than willing to allow others risk their own lives to help her. In fact, she essentially simplifies Link. In addition, her reaction to when she learns that Ganon is going to work with her body as a meat suit is priceless! However, over the course of the game that she becomes braver and goes via a genuine character arc.

The two biggest items that spirited this particular Zelda into first place is that she is present during the whole game and struggles alongside Connect as an equivalent. Zelda learns to treat Phantoms and they work together to overcome challenges and defeat their opponents. When she isn’t fighting, she gives Connect pointers and helps him to where he wants to go. She is also noteworthy for being the sole variation of Zelda who is shown to actually do the work of a ruler!
